First-Time Givers

There are many ways people can give to your church and remain anonymous. That’s why when first-time givers give in such a way that you can attach their gift with their identity, they want you to know they made a donation. So, it’s only reasonable that we have a pre-determined response plan. You need to know what to do next to make sure you honor and affirm their step of faith. Joel Mikell, Senior Vice President and Partner at Horizons Stewardship, unpacks why a first-time giver strategy matters as he shares valuable and practical tips on how to get started.

First-Time Giver Strategy Purpose

One of the benefits of a first-time donor strategy is increased funding for the church’s ministries, but the primary purpose is discipling persons to become more like Jesus. Generous giving is a characteristic of a fully devoted follower of Christ. Therefore, giving is spiritual before it is transactional. Honoring a first-time gift is one important way you can celebrate spiritual growth. When you have a first-time giver strategy in place, you can help disciples experience the joy of generous giving as they move from interested to completely invested in helping your church make disciples and fund ministry.
